In their blog below, our expert professional and managed security services team Cynergy, share their insight on the staggering rise in cybercrime over the past 18 months and what challenges organisations will face post COVID if work from anywhere becomes the normal.
Working from home has been like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, but will companies insist on asking their employees to return in-person full time or will work from home become work from anywhere?
If work from anywhere becomes the normal, does your workforce have adequate technology and education in place for staff to safely use public Wi-Fi points for their mobile devices and also do they use their devices purely for business use?
According to data analysed by *Atlas VPN Google, the tech giant alone detected on average 46,000 new phishing websites every week in 2020, that’s 2.02 million registered phishing websites since the start of 2020, but believe it’s part of a longer-term trend accelerated by the pandemic.
Also, mobile phishing attacks (smishing) increased more than 328% in Q3 of 2020 compared to Q2 of 2020, with social engineering moving up a notch with sophisticated voice-based phishing (vishing) attacks. The variations of phishing are growing at such an alarming rate which is driving a strong interest in organisations wishing to protect their assets and network by both educating their staff better to reduce the likelihood of an attack and running regular vulnerability scans on their assets to assess the technology and weak spots to defend from attack.
One security element should be critical to a healthy cybersecurity posture: a strong vulnerability management solution. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new hybrid approach to the workplace and companies are adapting to the new working environments. The new threat vectors from assets being everywhere increase the risk of vulnerabilities being exploited by threat actors, and year-on-year vulnerabilities are increasing. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), 18,352 vulnerabilities were reported in 2020 by Security Professionals, Vendors and Researchers and added to the *National Vulnerability Database (NVD).
Our vulnerability management solution Cynergy SafeScan and the team of highly skilled vulnerability management experts at Cynergy help our customers through a vulnerability management journey, gaining visibility of company assets, identifying and mitigating critical severity vulnerabilities promoting a risk-based approach, gaining efficiency to enable a successful patching program, easing the burden on IT Staff and providing cost savings during a time where business executives expect revenues to decline.
